The casinos know that when you are drunk you are more likely to throw your money around, and that is the precise reason that you should try not to do so. That includes gambling at home, where the liquor cabinet may be a little too handy. Keep your head clear!

At first that sounded funny, but really it is a great point. Many casinos offer free drinks just to get your pockets loosened up and for some people this method works all too well, for the casino that is. I do drink when I gamble, I must be honest, but I do not get sloppy while I play, I can promise you that.

I completely agree because there have been times where I’ve played even the least little bit tipsy and things did not turn out well. My wife was not a happy camper with me to say the least. A clear head is a good idea.

I too have a drink when I am playing, but that’s generally it-just the one drink because I have to drive home. So one drink early on, so a few hours later when I leave I’m totally clear, and I haven’t thrown my gaming money away either.

I think this is something overlooked by many as well. I could not count the times that friends were on the kick of being new (or just trying to show off) and getting close to smashed then hitting the tables. I think its pretty clear, do not handle large sums of money when that intoxicated. I guess for some its just not clicking for them.

I think this is a good part of why I almost always come out ahead when we get together for a poker night at home. My friends seem to look on it as just another social event and they end up intoxicated to varying degrees. Simply by being in full possession of my faculties, I tend to win a lot more often. I’d hate to see a couple of my friends in a real casino - they’d go home dead broke.

I don’t think a person should do most things drunk? I don’t really know why this should have to be said, if somebody thinks that getting drunk is going to make them play better, they are not thinking very clearly. You need a clear mind to play well.

That’s why the casino’s offer free drinks! It’s a conspiracy to get your money while you are drunk. When I go I have one maybe two drinks and that is it. I only saw, one time, this guy that was so drunk playing black jack and he lost about $5,000. I never want to be that person so my cutoff limit is 2 drinks.

In a live casino, they don’t like you drunk because you are more likely to cause trouble when you lose so they like you tipsy but not drunk. In an online casino, they don’t care if you are drunk or sober because the chances are you will gamble anyway as long as they throw you a few wins to keep you interested. The difference is, in an online casino, they don’t care but the thing is drunk people tend to give up sooner because they forget what they are doing. Tipsy is best because you lose some inhibitions and you are feeling good so you tend to gamble more. If you are drunk you don’t really know what you are doing and you tend to get pissed off more and give up.

Yeah, I enjoy a cold one now and then whilst playing, but I played with a friend when he was drunk off his rocker. Totally not fun. He kept on insisting that he had all these crazy hands and wondered angrily how I kept winning. It’s funny when you’re not the person, but I still highly insist that you do not get drunk then gamble. Not only do you not really care when you’re drunk and loose all your money, but it’s just not that good for you either.

Sometimes I don’t, but when I’m intoxicated, I do horrible. It’s like there’s some kind of logic behind it… unless you’re my bud, Josh. Then those rules don’t apply to you.
But, yeah, I’d advise playing when you’re not drunk. At home, that’s a totally different story though.

Drinking in any of the games except roulette would lead you to trouble only. Drinking and gambling should not be mixed. Instead of it, keep strict stop losses and once you hit the same, stop gambling and start enjoying.

Say you are playing poker, I don’t see any harm in drinking while playing poker as winning it is entirely upto your luck. But anyhow drinking in your limits is always important!

My ethos goes - don’t get drunk - if you can make a mistake at the table then you can make a mistake of the same magnitude in life!

Yes, I wouldn’t get drunk while playing. Knowing me, my concentration would be so frazzled, that I wouldn’t even know how to sit in the chair, let alone remember how to play the game.
