My friend just sent me this link over AIM: http://www.bostondynamics.com/content/sec.php?section=BigDog

Wow, this is one amazing and creepy robot! One that can run, jump, and know if it’s falling over or not! Science is both amazing me and scaring me. They have other things on here too, like the mini version of this BigDog and ones that can scale walls like spider-man. Pretty nuts if you ask me.

I don’t think it’s creepy at all.  I like the idea of anything that could possibly be used to reduce the risk to human beings.  Can you imagine all the uses something like this could have in times of war, for instance?  The only creepy robots that I’ve seen are the ones that look like people - that’s creepy.

Yeah, AI’s are pretty weird. I don’t know; something about the noise this makes along with how it moves to me unsettles me a little bit. I wouldn’t like to find one walking down my hall in the middle of the night!

However, you’re right. If it helps reduce humans going into wars, then I agree, and it may be a good thing afterall.

Wow! Looks like something right out of Half-Life or something! They don’t even look real! Science sure is starting to amaze me more and more everyday. I guess we’re not too far off from human robots, huh?

Well the days aren’t far when not only our daily work would be managed by robots but also the wars on the border will also be fought between robots of different countries.

That’ll be good - less human casualties.

Seriously though, that thing is creepy! Thanks for sharing the link, but still - WOW!

That thing is pretty creepy looking! Someone might have said it before but that sinister humming noise somehow creeps me out a bit. I saw the climbing and the smaller version of BigDog on this site too. Absolutely nuts.

I don’t think we need robots. Infact we don’t need computers and other gadgetry too! It is making us useless dumb fellows. We can’t calculate 2x5 or 20/6 without calculator. We can’t remember phone numbers of our friend. We don’t know who are our relatives. We have devolved socially, mentally and physically due to this artificial intelligence.

I pretty much agree with freedog! Why do we wish that all our work should be done by some body else? I am sick of our dependence on others. I ride my bicycle to college, wash my own clothes and utensils without any machine, I cook my own food and I can even do some carpentry work. Stop relying on others.
