Do you use your opponent’s style against them?

I’ve done it before and it worked for me! If you observe them enough and after so many games, you may be able to figure out their strads, which is great! That way, you can use it against them and sometimes they won’t even notice! Then again, I might have gotten lucky. So how about you? Tried using other players tricks against them before?

You can certainly try and emulate their tells so that they think that you have something that you do not. I’m not too good at it myself, as I’m normally too busy trying to cover my own to deliberately put forth fake ones. That’s too much work for me!

Isn’t that basically what you are doing if you are observing their tells?  That’s really the only way I can think of that I use it against them.  Most people are a dead giveaway if you watch them for a few hands.  There really are not that many who can carry off a true poker face and give nothing away so you just have to be observant.

That’s true.

And I understand where you’re coming from Jackle. I never tried but they’d probably catch me in the act of attempting to fool them, so I’ll just stick to what I know.

Of course I’ll try to use my opponent’s style against them! That’s what poker’s all about! Everyone has a style and a preference. Some people are even predictable at the level of risk they’ll take once the chips start getting low.

Some people start placing really silly bets once they believe they’re on a ‘winning streak’, so they get more confident and make stupid bluffs that are so easy to spot. Other people get desperate to win back after a big losing streak, so they tend to bluff more with bigger amounts too. When you see the betting amounts change like this, you know they’re bluffing.

I’d be afraid to try and trick them with their own stratigic ideas because knowing my luck, they would catch me in the act of, well, tricking them and then I wouldn’t hear the end of it. :(

I have done it quite a few times. Especially in poker. There are guys who are super confident and then there are simple fools too. Watch them play for few games and catch their style. On basis of that formulate your styling and you can win lots of money.

Generally I love playing BJ and there is no need to keep track of other’s actions so I am not much of an observer.
