Pontoon?

I saw the game Pontoon listed on an online casino last night. I looked up the information on what Pontoon is and it’s similiar to BlackJack, sorta. Has anyone ever played it? Apparently it’s the UK version of BlackJack. The thing that throws me is the dealer’s cards are both face down. So it seems like your chances are not as good as regular BlackJack. Anyone want to weigh in on what it’s like?

I never played it. Actually, I’ve never heard of it until you brought it up. It sounds interesting though. If I ever go to another casino sometime soon, I’ll see if they have it and play a round to tell you guys about it.

I’m like the previous poster and have never heard of it but then again you said it’s in the UK so that may be why I’ve never heard of it. I don’t think I would like playing black jack if both of the dealers cards are face down.

Never heard of it either. Sounds interesting though. I can’t imagine how you’d win if the dealer’s cards were both down. Wouldn’t that make it more of a lucky “guess” kind of game? Versus strategy? I’m looking to visit some casinos in Europe next year so maybe I’ll run into it.

It is a little like regular blackjack, except you have more to bet on. you have more than 2 cards to play with, so the best possible score you can receive is 21 added up from two cards, but the second best score you can receive is ‘pontoon’ which is 5 cards adding up to 21. Three or four cards adding up to 21 still have value, but not quite the same as 2 or 5 cards adding up to that amount.

Go over 21, you’re bust. Anything under 21 is same as blackjack - if dealer’s cards add up to more than yours he wins.

Thanks Thirteen. I’ve seen a pontoon table when I visited a casino in Sydney, but had no idea what it was. Thanks for the tip. I might give this a try next time.

Thank you for explaining Thirteen. Wow, that’s a bit confusing for me. But probably because it’s still new. I may give it a try if I have the opportunity next year. Sometimes I’m afraid to try something new when it involves my hard earned cash though… smile

You’ll find that it’s almost the same as blackjack. You’re still aiming to get as close to 21 as you can with just 2 cards. But if you get two low value cards then it’s worth trying for the pontoon score of 5 cards that add up to precisely 21.

I’ve never heard of pontoon that is associated with casino games until now. I thought you were talking about the pontoon deck boats, docks and raft kits. Wow, this is something. Do you know any trusted casino sites that has a pontoon game in it?
