I know it’s not a “Casino” game but how do you play this card game? My grandma tried to show me how to play once but I didn’t get it. She passed away last January so I can’t ask her.

Gin rummy can be a great game, though, just for the fun of it.  I like all sorts of rummy type games anyway so that’s probably why gin is a favorite.  If you know how to play other rummy games, it will be easy to pick up on the rules of gin.  Simply put, you just hold all the cards in your hand so your opponent can’t see how near or far you are to being able to use all your cards.  I’m terrible at giving directions but here’s a good explanation of gin rules: http://www.pagat.com/rummy/ginrummy.html

My mom used to play a version of gin rummy using tiles and a little stand like a scrabble letter stand when we were kids. We loved it. It’s like a basic version of canasta I guess.

I’m a little embarrassed to admit it but I’ve never played gin and have no idea about the rules. Thanks for providing the link. When I get a few minutes I’ll check it out. Sometimes I feel like I live in the dark ages because there are a lot of card games I know nothing about.

For a minute I thought that it was some kind of alcoholic beverage. It is an old, two-player card game that uses 52 ordinary playing cards. The Aces are at the lowest point, with the King being the highest point. It is slightly similar to playing solitaire but in this gin game, it contains sets of 3 or 4 cards that share the same rank (eg. 5 hearts, 5 flowers, 5 spades) and runs of 3 or more cards in order, of same suit (eg. 3 spades, 4 spades, 5 spades, 6 spades). If a player has a 3-card set and a 3-card run that shares a common card, he can only count one of them. Two cards are counted as deadwood.

I’ve never played but my grandma and grandpa use to play all the time. I’m not really sure how to play it either so I think I will hit up that link and see what it’s all about.

Our family plays gin most of the time. My parents sister and I we play 4 some. Ever since my parents passed away it was my kids turn to play against their dad. This game means a lot to me. This was my first card game to learn and play.  I’m passing it on to the next generation.
