A friend threw out the idea of having a non profit gambling reference site and if it would work. Everyone could donate (whatever amount they felt) to keep the site going as a news feed and in turn all of the money donated in could go for something worthy. Would something like this even be possible from the side of donations?

I have no idea how that could work. I know that one of our local banks held a fake-casino charity/fundraising event one night. As you walked in the door, you bought fake chips with real money and gambled on all the re-created casino games. Whatever the ‘house’ won - was donated to charity. It was a great fun night.

That was my point as well, our town has done bazaar type holdings but nothing other than the normal raffle type ways to pick. Some in our area even think that is just as bad as normal gambling.

I think it might work on a local level, if you have a lot of those type of events.  It wouldn’t take much money to get it started but I’m not sure it would be worth it on the part of the administrator.  It would be a lot of work to set up and run and you might even have to form a legal non-profit business entity.  Worth looking into if it’s something you are really interested in.

WOW! a great idea but I don’t think that a casino could be a NPO! Its senseless to me (no offense intended!)

It seems that your town is somewhat conservative, am I right? There some community that doesn’t welcome those kind of idea, just like your proposed not for profit gambling. I think you should try something else. Your mission to help the less fortunate will be more successful if it is well supported by the society.
